Dr James Ponds

Dr James Ponds is a consultant psychiatrist who trained in Perth, Western Australia. He completed a Bachelor of Science with an Honours year in Genetics before undertaking his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in Perth. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

Prior to specialising in psychiatry, Dr Ponds was involved in genetics research. His academic background informs his ongoing interest in the biological foundations of mental illness and the interaction between genetic, neurobiological, and environmental factors in psychiatric presentation.

Dr Ponds practices in general adult psychiatry and provides comprehensive assessment and management across a broad range of conditions, including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders. He has a particular interest in diagnostic precision and the biological frameworks that underline psychiatric illness.
