Getting a referral

Mental health admissions

The following steps are required to be admitted to our hospital for mental health support.

Get a referral

You can choose to either get a referral from your GP or treating doctor. If you don’t have a psychiatrist in mind, that’s completely fine—your GP can simply refer you to the hospital, and our team will allocate a suitable psychiatrist based on your individual needs.

If you are unsure if you need an admission you can contact our hospital to speak with a member of our admissions and assessment team who can discuss with you the services that the hospital provides to support your decision making.

Assessment of referral

Once we receive your referral, our admissions and assessment team will give you a call to conduct an over-the-phone assessment. We will require and check your insurer details during this assessment (this includes health funds, workers compensation insurer or other). You can also self-fund your admission if this is your preference. Following this assessment, the admission and assessment team will then discuss your referral with a psychiatrist with admission rights to the hospital.

Acceptance of referral

Once we confirm your admission to our hospital, we will contact you to arrange your admission date and answer any questions that you might have regarding your upcoming admission.

Costs and Insurance cover

Our Admissions and Assessment Team will confirm the following with you

  • What costs will be covered
  • Any out of pocket-of-pocket expenses to be paid
  • Any excess or co-payment with your health insurance required to be paid at time of admission
  • Self-funded options to be paid at time of admission, generally 10 days up front plus Doctors
